Ready to Plate

This was such a fun watercolor to paint, and it took several sessions. The reason was that I set it up on my wide, sunny windowsill in my Colorado studio where the sun hits perfectly for about 45 minutes in the morning - then it goes away. I got smart and after the drawing was done and the initial washes, I painted the apples, knowing that the slices would turn brown, but the plate and cloths would stay the same! I got the plate at a thrift shop and it was harder to paint than I thought it would be! There is nothing like a still life in the sun. Although the colors are not lively (red/green compliments) I think the sun gave the whole scene a liveliness!
