"Leading the Way to Spring"

Plein Air Oil on Linen on Board

I painted this on Fall River Road past Alluvial Fan in Rocky Mountain National Park, CO, just after the leaves had come out on the aspens. Although it was early June, I guess you could call it spring in Estes Park! As usual, I was attracted to the shadows on the white aspen, which changed very rapidly while I was trying to paint it! It was late morning, and the first time I tried to paint this, a herd of elk walked into the meadow, so I decided to leave and come back the next day to finish it.
