Palo Duro Canyon in Canyon, TX, has become one of my favorite places to paint. Although I didn't do this large one on location, I drove around at sunset and discovered this view on the first half of the "loop" through the canyon. I LOVED the shadow on the canyon wall, and that's what caught my eye in the first place. The most difficult thing was getting the reflected light correct in the shadow area. Having been there and observed it helped temendously because the camera just didn't capture it. I think the foreground being in shadow accentuates the light on the rocks.
