"Fall Awakening on Gem Lake Trailhead"

Several of us painted these aspens one morning near the beginning of Gem Lake Trailhead in Estes Park, Colorado. I painted fast, and had to put the finishing touches on this when I got home because it started raining on us. I almost finished, though, and was able to capture the shadows from the backlighting before the sun went away. Because the sun was coming from behind, the mountain looks kind of purplish-blue-gray, which helps compliment all the yellow-oranges in the painting.
