"Autumn Shadows Near Lily Lake"

Plein Air Oil on Gessoed Masonite

Some of the best fall aspens I found were five minutes from our house in Estes Park across the highway from Lily Lake, where I paint, walk and take pictures all the time while we're there. I began this painting by putting in the shadows on the trees as fast as I could because I knew they would change momentarily, and they did. I used a mixture of the three primary colors, red, yellow and blue, for the shadow color on the almost white trees. This was so much fun to paint!
