"Autumn Blaze in Turkey Meadow"

This was an afternoon painting in Mueller State Park near Pike's Peak in Colorado. We had taken our motor home there for the weekend to enjoy the beautiful fall colors and do a few short hikes. Just after I set up and had barely put the first brushstroke on, a park ranger came up to me and asked if I'd seen the bear that had been reported in Turkey Meadow about twenty minutes before. He convinced me that the black bear was "just passing through and wouldn't bother me," but you can be assured that I was looking over my shoulder the whole time I was painting this beautiful scene!
